Brand Development & Logo Design: Fern Bridal
I was so thrilled when the lovely Lydia Epp of Fern Bridal contacted me to design the logo for her new business, Fern Bridal. Lydia creates modest, beautiful wedding gowns and wanted a brand that was elegant, bespoke, and a little bit boho.
After an initial design consultation and hour chat about her personal brand, vision for her company, and design aesthetic we started a Pinterest board together that helped inform her visual branding. Out of those images, I created three initial design concepts including brand colors, mood board, and logos.
The first concept for her logo and branding was heavily influenced by the natural world. The hand lettered and painted type is offset with a hand-painted watercolor fern.
For the second concept, I wanted to create something more refined and feminine. Lydia told me when we first started working together that she loves my botanical illustrations, so incorporating that element was a given. This logo is also hand-lettered, giving what could be a very formal design an approachable feel.
The final concept for Fern Bridal was inspired by the artistry and movement of her bridal gown designs. Overtly feminine, this logo was hand written using a thick charcoal pencil to give a truly handwritten feeling to the script. The small fern compliments the script and is used in the submark to reinforce the branding.
Lydia fell in love with the first concept, and after some revisions and additional conversations, I re-painted the lettering to be more delicate, the entire text on a single line, and the fern to be more realistic. I loved every phase of this project and the final result. The logo is artistic, feminine, and inspired by nature.
